One day a friend of mine saw me in line at the grocery store. I was balancing boxes of Capri Suns, cheap plastic Goodie Bag paraphernalia, and a super tall cake with Barbie thrust through the middle. I was late, and I was afraid, my child, guests would arrive before I did, so I was probably sweating and out of breath. I was already tired from the birthday celebration, and it had not yet begun.

Figuring they might regret, I said, "Birthday partieswear me out. "And she said:" But they're so happy. "

Ah, spoken like someone who has a really good nanny.

Preschool birthday parties are happy, but the truth is, if my children were younger, I tended sight of what a successful birthday party to lose: a memorable event that your child will be appreciated. I spent much too much into the vision of what I wanted the birthday party experience to be, without thinking too little about theExperiences from the perspective of my child. I stressed about not omit siblings, who was with age-appropriate goodie bags for a number of children who are way too wide. Somewhere along the line, the magic of the experience was lost.

Now that my kids are a little older, and I have a few more parties under my belt, I do it differently.

Here are some tips for throwing a birthday party for children up to 5 years.

Start early.
It is much easier toGet it all done if you plan ahead.

Be brief.
A two-hour party is long enough for children aged between 3 and below. Children aged 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. can usually handle one or two hours longer, but you do not go crazy. Birthday parties are tremendously stimulating for a young child. Throw in some sugar, and tantrums are inevitable.

Keep it small.
The rule of thumb is to keep the number of guests equal to the age of the child. Too many visitors attentionfrom the child, which is excellent. If you have a large family (especially if your family includes cousins) with a large variation in age, you may want to check whether a family celebration separate from the celebration with friends. We started with our family over for pizza the night before or after the party the night of the children.

Keep it simple.
Questions your child for ideas on activities, games, crafts, or food, when your party. Kidsare surprisingly imaginative and often know exactly how they want to be her birthday party. Plus, their ideas are often surprisingly simple. Ask your children to the nature of the party wants them to describe, is a good starting point. If it over the top, you can simplify from there. For example, if your child longs for a Grand Princess Tea Party, ask anyone in their favorite dress up outfit and decorate paper or plastic cups come asTheir activities. The birthday child can be responsible for the filling of apple juice and handing over of finger sandwiches.

Ask for help.
Ask family members to stay, older siblings and friends around. If there is a child you are worried about how to manage the behavior and ask the parents to stay for the party.

Make every guest something special when they arrive.
Small children can be temporary at first, in a festive, noisy atmosphere, so make sure to make them feel welcome. One really popular idea that we have done in the past: do Enlist an older sibling and parents in a simple face painting for each guest as they arrive.

Give the wee ones to do something.
You do not go overboard, but a plan is important and will help the party go more smoothly. This age group is in free play to operate for some time. And then you can have a simple craft station, followed by a simple game when you're feeling ambitious. Simple crafts can hear thatPhoto Frame (Orientaltrading.com is ideal for simple ideas like this.) Everything you need is some stickers and places the box with a 4x6 square cut into the middle. Then you have a photo of the child with the birthday boy or girl and print it immediately (if fitted to a digital camera kit to do so) or send the photo in the thank you note. If you have time, you can play some games. Kids love simple party games like Duck, Duck, Goose and Ring AroundThe Rosy. But be careful, getting up once a group of angry children, it can be difficult to lower them again.

Use music to help with crowd control.
Fun, lively melodies children can "get the party started. If each one begins a little wild and crazy, turn the soft classical music. The children are probably not consciously notice a difference, but you are obliged to change their behavior see.

Maintaining order in taverns time.
Too often, the children will feelWild and a little out of control by the time it is time to open presents, and it is difficult to control as soon as the gift box starts to fly. Start in an orderly fashion by two chairs side by side. (Kid big chairs are best.) The child, the opening of gifts is sitting in a chair sitting and the donor in the other during their current opens. In this way, the donor feels singled out and special when she sees her present being opened. This relationship is also a perfect photo opportunity if you are guaranteedto have only the host and donor in the photo.

Make the birthday child something special.
A tradition that we have done for our children when they turn four is to tell the birthday child an inexpensive single disposable camera (if you sell yourself for that, you can get them for under $ 5 too.) Tell them that the camera is on them, their birthday and anniversary celebration in what way, as documented. Once the photos are developed,You can make prints in an inexpensive plastic mini photo book. Kids are so proud to take them photos themselves.

Goodie Bags.
Go for quality rather than quantity. Young children love anything with their name on it. Here is a popular idea, we have used: find an inexpensive little sketchbooks and use stamps to each guest's name on the front spell. A band around the front so that it expects extra fancy of young eyes, pair it with a few pens or markers and a lollipop, andYou're all set. Kids also love to pack the things so that instead of filling a Goodie bag with small items, you can gift wrap a meaningful article and send it to take home.

Some other ideas: My 5-year-old recently came home from a party with a full-size Hershey's bar and she was the envy of the entire neighborhood. Another great success: My sister-in-law had once tied a spring garden party for her 5-year-old with mini terra cotta pots with ribbons and a small silk flower. Each child was given a seed during the party system and the pot to take home as a party favor.

Quick and Easy Thank You Notes.
A simple way to store notes, thank you to all of the artwork your child creates on any given day, cut the page in the middle, and fold each half into a card. Ask your child what he or she wants to say to each of the guests in turn. Write to them and ask your children to sign their names if they are able. If not, they drag a littlePhoto (or maybe not, depending on when you want to spend and the patience level) you and your child. Insert enjoy a photo of the birthday child and guests, and you're done until next year.
